Fraudster Sentenced to 32 Months after TSS Investigation

A 31-year-old Perth man was sentenced to 32 months imprisonment by a Sheriff at Airdrie today, 25th August 2022, after earlier pleading guilty to fraud and other charges relating to building and landscaping works.

After an extensive investigation by Trading Standards Scotland (TSS) assisted by partner agencies, Dean Stirton aka Dean Dixon (who traded as ‘First Response Garden and Tree Care Services’ and ‘Smartway Tree and Garden Services’) was reported by TSS to the Procurator Fiscal at Airdrie, subsequently appeared on indictment in July this year, pled guilty to various charges and was remanded into custody pending todays sentencing.

Fiona Richardson, Chief Officer of Trading Standards Scotland, said:

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the victims, some of whom were vulnerable,  for coming forward, working with us and trusting us to thoroughly investigate and report their complaints to the COPFS. I would also like to thank our local authority Trading Standards partners and Police Scotland whose assistance was invaluable to this outcome.

“I remind consumers that they should always take care before having any work done to their homes.  You should obtain at least three quotes and I would encourage people to make their local authority trusted trader scheme the first port of call. Finally, this is a clear message to consumers and criminals alike, that if you make a complaint or you are the subject of one, TSS will investigate the matter thoroughly and where a crime or offence has been established, a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
