On Tuesday 13 June 2023, Trading Standards Scotland, in conjunction with local authority trading standards services from North Lanarkshire Council and Police Scotland took action against a 62-year-old male who was selling counterfeit goods on a large scale.

This action resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of counterfeit clothing and accessories mimicking a number of luxury brands representing around £514,000 in detriment to the legitimate brands and around £150k in criminal gain to the individual found in possession of the goods.

Illicit trade is a priority for the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce which bring partners together to work collaboratively in order to protect Scottish communities.  This type of action is aimed at protecting consumers and legitimate businesses by preventing the sale of counterfeit products throughout Scotland.  Working closely with brand representatives, the recovered products will now be examined and a range of enforcement outcomes will be considered.
